Why can't Mariano Riviera be a reliever or even a starter?

Why would you want him there? He is one of the greatest closers in the game. The closer is such an important position and it is so hard to find a good closer to finish out a game and preserve a win. Once you have one that is as good as Rivera you don't put him in any other spot.
