For a person having 5 yrs gap?

My friend having ped out at 2001(civil), could not continue her career due to certain cirstances, but has been constantly in touch in software line by undergoing cles in java ,vb,etc. now she wishes to continue her career in software programming as she has a good knowledge in programming languages. currently is she eligible for any of the software jobs or will the gap be a drawback?
